FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What are your qualifications?
We are NATE Certified (North American Technician Excellence) and EPA 608 Certified. Owner and Lead Technician Mike Presley personally holds these certifications and has taught HVAC classes for the PHCC trade contractors school. We have over 30 years of experience in the HVAC industry and have the knowledge, tools, and expertise to overcome any obstacles you face with your home's sytem.
  • What is the warranty period for repairs done by KB Cooling & Heating?
At KB Cooling & Heating, we are committed to providing high-quality service and ensuring our customers' satisfaction. Our standard warranty period for repairs is 1 year, which includes coverage for parts and labor. Some parts are covered by the manufacturer for even longer periods of time. We stand by the work of our experienced technicians and strive to deliver long-lasting solutions for your HVAC needs. Additionally, our team is always ready to address any concerns or issues that may arise after a repair, ensuring that you can rely on the functionality and efficiency of your heating and cooling systems. Customer satisfaction and peace of mind are our top priorities, and our warranty policy reflects our dedication to delivering reliable and effective HVAC solutions.
  • Why shouldn't I fix (or maintain) it myself?
Your heating and cooling system is the most expensive appliance in your home. When maintained properly and managed by a professional, you can extend your equipment lifetime significantly! When you do it yourself, even if you get the repair or maintenance done right, it will VOID your manufacturer's warranty, meaning you will have to pay for any parts out of pocket that would have otherwise been covered by their warranty. We guarantee all our work, and will go out of our way to make sure you are satisfied. It might seem cheaper to do it yourself (not really after you factor in parts, the right tools, safety precautions, and time spent researching and trying to learn proper procedures), but in the long-run it is definitely much more cost effective to have a professional work on your system and guarantee the work.
  • What CAN I do myself?
If you insist, and we get it - we are DIYers too, there are several things you can do to save money and keep your equipment running in tip-top shape. Change your filters MONTHLY. If you have high-efficiency filters, these should be changed every 6-12 months based on your location. Check them often to make sure they are still viable. Check your thermostat - set your thermostat to a comfortable schedule or temperature and check it often to ensure it is reaching the set point. When the seasons change, set the thermostat to heat/air. Change the temperature and listen to make sure it activated the equipment as it should. Check the thermostat's emergency heat function (if you have emergency heat) and make sure it is not the primary method of heat (it is designed to quickly bring up temperature in extreme differences, not to sustain the temperature on a regular basis). If only one or the other are working, call a professional. Clean your outdoor unit - frequently remove leaves from the condenser and spray it down with a hose. Keep debris, plants, mulch, grass clippings, and animals away from the unit. Debris, mulch, plants (especially grass clippings - make sure your landscaper is not leaving a carpet of grass on your outdoor unit!) can choke the system, keeping it from getting the air it needs to function properly and efficiently. Dogs will often mark a condenser, eroding the coil and damaging the equipment beyond repair. Making sure the outdoor unit is protected will go a long way in extending its lifetime. Check your ductwork - make sure all air ducts are connected, and no pieces are damaged or have insulation torn off. This may be an indication that rodents or other pests are chewing pieces off of your ductwork. If you suspect creatures in the space, we recommend having a professional treat to rid the area of them, and repairing the ductwork and insulation as needed. Nobody wants to pay to cool their attic or crawl space! For minor tears, you can duct tape the air duct, and reinsulate. For larger damage, contact a professional ASAP. Don't wait to make sure your equipment is working! Test the AC before the sweltering Georgia temperatures, and test the heat before the cold sets in. If there is a problem with your system, it is always better to find out and correct it before you really need it! This also helps to lessen wait times for repair parts and labor. Inspect all vents - most systems rely on vents to circulate conditioned air throughout your home. Make sure your vents are clear from blockages; no furniture, rugs, toys, decor, etc. should be blocking your vents at any time. Also check for signs of moisture or mold. Small amounts of moisture can be normal condensation, but excessive water could be caused by a leaking AC system. Left untreated, you can be subjecting your home to major damage. If you find mold on your vents, it can spread, leading to serious health issues. If you suspect excessive water or mold is an issue with your vents, call a professional ASAP. Check all windows and doors - besides making sure windows and doors aren't open excessively (wasting the cool/warm air you paid for), check for drafts and cracks that are allowing the conditioned air to leave your home. Making sure everything is sealed will help prevent air from escaping, saving on your energy bills, and keeping your system from overworking. Pay attention to the age of your equipment - just because it is reaching the temperature you set on the thermostat, doesn't mean it's working efficiently. The HVAC industry continues to advance in making equipment that works smarter, not harder. Older equipment may take much longer and work much harder to obtain the same result, costing you more to run it every month. An HVAC Technician can tell you if your equipment is costing you unnecessarily. Schedule Preventive Maintenance with a professional! You might not be able to do the maintenance yourself to keep warranties intact, but making sure it gets scheduled consistently will go a long way in keeping your home comfortable, keeping costs down, and extending the lifetime of the equipment. If you're ever not sure, it's always better to ask! We're here to help 24/7 - CALL OR TEXT us at 478-832-9518.
